Matériaux et durabilité

  • Product Materials

Liberty is constructed using die-cast aluminum, steel, engineered polymers, contoured seat cushion, multi-layer Duron arm pads, and upholstery textile. Die-cast aluminum and steel form the structural frame and recline mechanism. Engineered polymers are used for components requiring flexibility and impact resistance. The back features patented Form Sensing tri-panel fabric that takes on the exact shape of the sitter's back, providing a personalized fit and maximum adaptability.

Entretien, maintenance et longévité

  • Upholstery

Vacuum regularly using a soft brush attachment. For deeper cleaning, wipe down with a damp cloth — no soap required for routine maintenance. For stubborn marks, a small amount of mild soap solution can be applied and wiped clean with a damp cloth. Allow to dry fully before use.

  • Frame, Base & Components

Clean metal and plastic components with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap if needed. Dry thoroughly.

Design By Niels Diffrient (1928–2013)

Niels Diffrient was a pioneering industrial designer known for his human-centered approach and belief that design should be intuitive and effortless. Often called “the last of the mid-century modernists,” he focused on simplicity, allowing form to follow function in its purest sense. A Cranbrook Academy graduate alongside Charles and Ray Eames and Eero Saarinen, Diffrient went on to shape some of the most iconic products of the 20th century. His work at Henry Dreyfuss Associates helped define modern industrial design, while his research into human factors redefined how products support the body. His partnership with Humanscale introduced a new standard in seating, creating designs that automatically adapt to the user. Diffrient’s legacy lives on in products that are simple, timeless, and designed to improve the human experience.

    Fabric back feels more

The fabric back feels more refined than mesh in my opinion. It gives the room a softer, more welcoming feel for clients. I’ve sat through multiple 3-hour strategy sessions and never once felt the need to stand up because of discomfort. That says a lot.

    I'm a therapist and sit

I’m a therapist and sit with clients back-to-back most days. I chose the fabric back because I wanted something that felt softer and less “corporate.” It’s incredibly supportive without feeling clinical. My previous chair left me stiff by 3pm. This one doesn’t. That alone is worth it.

    Sit in this chair during

I sit in this chair during long brainstorming sessions where I’m constantly turning to write on a whiteboard or lean toward someone talking. The chair moves easily and the fabric back supports me the whole time. It doesn’t dig into your shoulder blades or feel rigid. Very thoughtfully designed.

    We switched to the

We switched to the fabric backrest version for our executive conference room because the space feels a little warmer and more traditional than the mesh vibe. I was worried it might run hot during long quarterly meetings, but it hasn’t at all. The fabric has just enough give to support you without feeling stiff. Last week we had a 5-hour planning session and not one person stood up to stretch their back, which is basically a miracle in our office.

    Look of the fabric

I love the look of the fabric back — it feels more polished in our client-facing meeting room. The chair is comfortable for long sessions, though I do wish the seat had just a bit more cushion for the 3+ hour workshops we host. That said, no back pain, and that’s what matters most to me.
