What makes Humanscale chairs different?
Most people spend their day hunched over their desks, often not even touching the chair back. Traditional chairs rely on locks and tension controls, and when those are not used well, the chair stops supporting the person. Humanscale takes a different approach: we keep the functionality, but make it feel invisible. Many models use the sitter’s body weight and simple physics to provide self-adjusting recline, so you can sit in any posture you want and stay supported.
What does “self-adjusting” or “weight-sensitive” mean?
It means the chair uses your body weight to provide the right recline support automatically. Instead of asking you to dial in settings, the chair responds the moment you sit down and continues supporting you as you move.
Do I need a recline lock or tension adjustment?
No. Humanscale seating is designed so you do not need to manage recline locks or tension knobs. The chair supports you throughout the recline and holds you up wherever you naturally stop.
Will the chair fit my height and body type?
Humanscale task chairs are designed to accommodate a wide range of users with simple, intuitive adjustments like seat height and arm positioning. Because recline support is based on your body weight, the chair is designed to feel natural across different body types.
Do Humanscale chairs have lots of levers and knobs?
No. Humanscale focuses on simplicity. Many models reduce unnecessary controls by building support into the way the chair responds to you, so the experience feels intuitive from the start.
Are the casters safe for hardwood floors and carpet?
Yes. All our casters are Multi-Surface Casters designed to roll smoothly on hard or soft floors.
How much assembly is required?
Very little. Our chairs ship in a few pieces so they can fit in a smaller box. Assembly is quick and tool-free.
What is the warranty?
Most Humanscale seating is backed by an industry-leading 15-year warranty. Fabric, cushions, arm pads, casters, and wood components are covered for 5 years. Select models vary: the Summa carries a 10-year warranty, the World LM Task Chair a 12-year warranty, and the Diffrient Lounge a 5-year warranty.
